The quiet violet
Amethyst
01
The earthly record
A violet variety of quartz made of silicon dioxide. Its color develops when trace iron within the crystal is altered by natural irradiation. Amethyst measures 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
02
Traditional associations
In ancient and modern lore, amethyst is associated with clear judgment, temperance, intuition, and a quieter mind. The name is linked to the Greek amethystos, meaning “not intoxicated.”
03
How it may feel
Often chosen when you want your space to feel hushed, focused, and a little more spacious—as though the noise has receded enough to hear yourself think.
Suited to: Stillness · discernment · dreamwork · thoughtful boundaries
04
Care & cleansing
Wipe with a soft cloth or wash briefly in lukewarm water with mild soap, then dry. Avoid prolonged strong sunlight, which may fade some stones, and sudden temperature changes.
Moon-charging note
A gentle choice for a moonlit ritual. Place it on a dry windowsill or protected outdoor surface overnight; remove it before direct morning sun.
